Primary School Music Club 2018

Every Wednesday afternoon Chanelle' one of our music therapists run a 1-hour Music Club for children from years 3-6. This year we have had a great turn out! Music Club has been a great opportunity to build social and musical skills whilst having fun and learning something new.

What have we been up to this year?

This year the children have learnt so many new songs. Their favourites include; Riptide, Don’t worry be happy, I’m yours and Okki Tokki Unga. We have done a variety of music based activities including:

  • Drumming
  • Instrumental arrangements
  • Improvisation
  • Singing
  • Dance and Movement
  • Auditory Discrimination Games
We have seen great gains in social skills including;

  • Turn taking
  • Active listening
  • Sharing
  • Reading social cues
  • Effective communication with adults and peers
  • Initiating and ending social interactions
  • Managing emotions
  • Team work
  • How to cope with making mistakes
  • Building social and musical skills

Our favourite music activities this year include;

Guess the Tune

One of the children’s favourite music games at the moment is a team work activity called “Guess the Tune”. The children use hand bells to play the melody together in order to work out the tune. Here is a short video of the children playing, can you work out what the tune is?

Random Composition

One of the other children’s favourite music games is “Random Composition”. This game involves a huge dice and bells. The children roll the dice and choose the bell that matches. As a team the children discuss and decide where to place them or if to roll again. After many turns we end up with a composition.
