23 March 2018

Our 20th Music Quiz was, as usual, a hotly contested competition with last year’s winners, The Desperates, starting the night quietly confident that they could again leave the gorgeous Crystal Palace Ballroom victorious.
At the end of round one delivered by Peter Garrett The Desperates were in the lead, a position that they would own for the next three rounds.  Master of quiz creation, Roddy Lee, certainly didn’t make life easy and you could almost feel the brains hurting in the room as Tim Freedman read out the answers – dashing the hopes and dreams of more than one team.

The Desperates did leave victorious for a second year, the Morris Majors and The Tammy Wynette Allstars tied for second and The Mozzies came in third (yes, there are different ranking standards**).
We are always very grateful for the support we get from our Ambassadors and the wider music industry to assist us with fundraising and promotion of our work, work that uses their craft to deliver impactful results to people facing various physical and mental health challenges in our community.

There are many people to thank and we will put together a more comprehensive article next week acknowledging all the amazing people that make Music Quiz happen soon.

**          Note that we have used the Dense ranking method to represent the results.

About Dense ranking: In dense ranking, items that compare equally receive the same ranking number, and the next item(s) receive the immediately following ranking number. Equivalently, each item's ranking number is 1 plus the number of items ranked above it that are distinct with respect to the ranking order.
Thus if A ranks ahead of B and C (which compare equal) which are both ranked ahead of D, then A gets ranking number 1 ("first"), B gets ranking number 2 ("joint second"), C also gets ranking number 2 ("joint second") and D gets ranking number 3 ("third").
